More and more businesses are enabling the “Buy Online Pick Up in Store” (aka BOPIS or BOPUS) option, where customers can shop online and then pick up for free in the brick-and-mortar store. 78% of online shoppers find the option to shop online for in-store pickup appealing.
You can set up in-store pickup through shipping settings in your Online Store. Your customers can stop by your location to pick up their orders, instead of waiting for a courier service to ship them out. Plus, customers don’t need to enter shipping information, so they can check out faster.
Note: This service is available on all Yola Online Store plans, including free.
Setting up in-store pickup
- From your Online Store dashboard, go to Shipping & Pickup.
- Click the +Add Pickup button in the Self Pickup area.
- Enter the Order pickup label. It will be displayed to customers at checkout. For this example, we have entered Self Pickup.
If you offer curbside or drive-through pickup instead of in-store pickup, add the corresponding pickup label that will be displayed at the checkout.
- Enter the Detailed instructions for customers – how, where, and when your customers can collect their purchases:
Make sure to update the pickup instructions for customers to make it clear how exactly this particular pickup option works. For example: “When you’re at the pickup location, call us at [insert your phone number here], and we’ll safely place your order in your car’s trunk.”
- Add the Pickup charge, if necessary. This is important, for example, if you need to cover your expenses for delivering goods to this pickup location.
- Click Add Pickup Option.
Now your customers can choose the in-store pickup option at checkout.
If you have multiple locations available for pickup, simply add more pickup options following the same steps. Add each location address in the Pickup option label field so your customers can easily differentiate the pickup options available to them.
Setting up pickup date and time
You can allow your customers to pick the Date and Time for their in-store pickup option. Set the business hours to make sure your customers don’t show up when you are closed.
Here’s how you can enable the Date and Time Picker option:
- From your Online Store dashboard, go to Shipping & Pickup.
- Click Actions > Edit next to the enabled In-store Pickup option.
- Enable the option Ask for pickup date and time at checkout:
- Tick the days when you are open for pickup and set your Business Hours.
- Select the convenient Order Fulfillment Time.
- Click Save.
Now when your customers choose to pick up their order at the checkout, they can select the preferable day and time according to your business hours and order fulfillment time.
You will know what day and time the customer has selected at checkout from the email notification for this order and when you are viewing the Order Details in your Online Store dashboard, go to My Sales > Orders.
Managing pickup orders
When a new pickup order is placed in your store, you can notice it among other sales on your Orders page by the In-store Pickup icon.
Tip: If you have many orders that will be picked up by buyers, you can export the information with the pickup date and time chosen by customers to a CSV file so you can clearly see which orders should be fulfilled first.
To inform the customer that their order is awaiting pickup, simply change its Fulfillment Status to Ready for Pickup.
Online Store will send the email notification to the customer’s email address.
Make sure that the Order is Ready for Pickup notification is enabled in your dashboard. Go to Settings > Mail and check this setting:
If this email notification has not been enabled, your customers won't be able to receive it.
Modifying the Ready for Pickup email template
Online Store sends out the notification Order is Ready for Pickup to the customer’s email address when you change the order status to Ready for Pickup. The notification provides the details about purchased items and the pickup instructions.
You can customize your Ready for Pickup email notification by adding a logo or changing the color scheme, font, or adding additional details.
To edit the template:
- In your Online Store dashboard, go to Settings > Mail.
- Navigate to the Order is Ready for Pickup email notification and click Edit.
- Modify the template HTML code as needed.
- Click Preview email or Send a test email to make sure everything is correct.
If you need to reset a template to its default, click Revert to default link below the template editor:
- Click Save when you are done modifying the template.
This feature is available on all Online Store plans.
