First steps in Sitebuilder+

Before diving into the website customization process, you need to take some important steps described in this article.

Also, this guide can help you plan your website-building activities.

Site Setup Wizard

Once you’ve signed up, you will be taken to the Site Setup Wizard, our onboarding helper. You will fill in the basic information about your website so that you can fully concentrate on customizing it later.

The Wizard has up to 5 steps, and you can opt out by clicking Skip at the top right corner of the screen.

Step 1. What kind of website do you want to create?

At this step, you can specify a category or niche for your site. Choose one of the examples or start typing the kind of website you would like to create so that you see relevant templates in the Template Gallery.

If your website is of a rare niche and you can’t find the exact match in the list, you can skip this step. However, we recommend you choose the closest option to have a matching template selection.

Once you are done, click Continue.

Step 2. Choose a template

Our templates are filled with default content like images and text pieces. All this content is changeable, yet choosing a template that caters to your business may be handy.  We grouped all templates into categories for your convenience.

Each template thumbnail has two buttons: Preview and Start editing.

Once you click the Preview button, you can see the template full-scale and preview it on various devices by clicking the respective buttons.

You can return to the Template gallery to choose a different template by clicking Back in the top-left corner.

Find more tips on picking a perfect template in our guide Choosing the right template.

When you pick the template you want to proceed with, click the Start editing button, which brings you to the onboarding step.

Step 3. Let’s fill some basic information

In the onboarding sequence, you can enter your website name if you already have one. The Wizard offers you a default site name based on the name you entered during registration. You can change it or leave it as is and click Continue. Also, you can change the website language in this step.

Note: The website name is not your site address, and you can change it later if needed. This name is for your website identification in the My Yola dashboard if you want to build more than one website.

Step 4. Let us better understand your business

On the next page, you can add an alternative to your Sitename – a business name, or you can keep it the same by ticking the respective checkbox. Also, you can add a brief introduction of your business.

Click Continue to proceed.

Note: The information you fill in during the onboarding process will automatically be added to all your website forms so that you won’t have to enter it manually every time you add new blocks or pages. However, you can skip any onboarding step by clicking the Skip step button in the top-right corner of your window.

Step 5. Finish with business information

Fill up the form with your business information such as business address and phone, email, working hours, and so on. The information will then automatically appear in all the necessary places on your site, like the header, the footer, and the Contacts block, saving you time for customization.

Click Finish setup to go to the Sitebuilder.

The site setup for the Online Store and Community/Organization types of website are the same. For the Personal website, you don’t have to set up the business information.

Sitebuilder

After completing the above steps, you will be redirected to the Sitebuilder.

Your new site has a basic layout: a header, several content blocks with demo images and placeholder text, and a footer. Now, you can fully concentrate on adding your own content and additional blocks if needed.

Sitebuilder for mobile

You can build your website on any device, such as a smartphone or a tablet, and you do not need a specific app for this. Start by opening your Yola account in your device’s browser, and you will access the Sitebuilder from your Dashboard.

You can add or remove blocks, edit the content, and manage your site settings right from your phone. For more information about editing your website on a mobile device, take a look at our dedicated section, Mobile Sitebuilder
