Starting with a template allows you to build a professional-looking website using a ready-to-use layout. Our templates are created by designers and optimized for various industries and goals. They offer a strong visual foundation while allowing flexibility to adjust the layout, colors, and content to align with your brand.
The setup process involves four steps that help you choose and start working with the right template for your website.
Note: You can opt out of a step by clicking Skip at the top right corner of the screen.
Step 1. What kind of website do you want to create?
At the first step, you can specify a category or niche for your site. Choose one of the examples or start typing the kind of website you would like to create so that you see relevant templates in the Template Gallery.
If your website is of a rare niche, and you can’t find the exact match in the list, you can skip this step. However, we recommend you choose the closest option to have a matching template selection.
Once you are done, click Continue.
Step 2. How do you want to create your website?
Select the Start with a template option to explore a variety of professional layouts tailored to your niche. This allows you to seek out a designer-made template matching your request.
Note: Even if you opt for building your site with a template, you can still take advantage of the AI feature for generating pages and any textual content.
Step 3. Choose a template
Our templates are filled with demo content like images and text pieces. All this content is changeable, yet choosing a template that caters to your business may be handy. During the selection process, you can adjust the layout of the displayed templates for convenience.
All templates are grouped into categories for easy browsing. You can use the search box to find the type of business or website you need. It will be essential for those who have skipped Step 1.
Each template thumbnail has two buttons: Preview and Start editing.
Once you click the Preview button, you can see the template full-scale and preview it on various devices by clicking the respective buttons.
You can return to the Template Gallery to choose a different template by clicking Back in the top-left corner.

When you pick the template you want to proceed with, click the Start editing button, which brings you to the onboarding step.
Step 4. Let’s fill in some basic information
In the onboarding sequence, you can enter your website name if you already have one. The Wizard offers you a default site name based on the name you entered during registration. You can change it or leave it as is and click Continue. Also, you can change the website language in this step.
Note: The website name is not your site address, and you can change it later if needed. This name is for your website identification in the My Yola dashboard if you want to build more than one website.
Sitebuilder
After completing the above steps, you will be redirected to the Sitebuilder.
Your new site has a basic layout: a header, several content blocks with demo images and placeholder text, and a footer. Now, you can fully concentrate on adding your own content and additional blocks if needed.
Tip: We have an extensive collection of tutorials to help you get started with adding content, managing your website settings, and getting around the Sitebuilder. We especially recommend reading the Basics – Getting started section.
